Development of new roof and facade/hive treatment

The Hive atriums were given a glass facade to accentuate their presence within the structure as a whole and help visually distinguish between the various architectural elements such as circulation spaces, shops/businesses and the residences.

I wanted to make it a goal to use three dimensions to tie in the roof and the facade so that the roof can somewhat seamlessly join the wall plane and vice versa. The image below shows a development of this. I believe it helps create the hive context better.

I also decided to break up the atriums frontage by bringing across some of the residential/commercial wall elements to blend the whole design together. It also helps break up the sheer height of the glass entries to bring it more two a personal level.
